BurkinaPod Episode 2: Camp G2LOW

BurkinaPod Episode 2: Camp G2LOW

BurkinaPod Episode 2: Camp G2LOW This is Burkinapod a podcast put together by Peace Corps volunteers in Burkina Faso Im your host David Benhammou A couple years ago I was watching Hulu this is actually a sad memory because it makes me remember a time when I had fast internet and anyway a commercial came on talking about the benefits of sending your kid to a summer camp I have no idea if this kind of ad would have worked on my parents and I had never really considered my summers at Boy Scout camp life-changing But with some greater reflection I came to realize that actually camp is a pretty great thing You get to meet other people who after a grueling week together you might never see again Youre away from your parents Its just a totally different environment Camp Ive decided is pretty cool Its what all the cool kids are doing So today were going to take a look at Camp GLOW a camp we Peace Corps volunteers ran in four different cities in Burkina Faso in the summer of 2012 GLOW stands for Guys and Girls Leading Our World and part of the focus of this camp was to teach life-skills to the kids participating But being a camp run mostly by Americans in a developing country for kids who generally dont hear of summer camps this seems like a story worth sharing with the rest of the world And besides many of you contributed to making this happen indeed without the support of volunteers families and friends summer camps in Burkina Faso wouldnt happen So lets take a look at the diverse group of people who worked Camp GLOW Kaya in July 2012

Tired Walls Are Worn

Tired Walls Are Worn

Tired Walls Are Worn This song was written right after I got home It was right after my girl at the time slammed the door on me I left her apartment went home wrote the lyrics and guitars in a 1 hour session The vocal was recorded within the next hour after writing the song It just poured out I was hurting had to release it This song is pretty blunt and literal in ways Its me speaking to the things she said to me in the verses and trying to understand and stating the reason it all happened in the choruses Tired Walls Are Worn by John Hunter You said it meant nothing when we touched It was just the moment and nothing else I opened doors and did what no one else cares to do I walked the gentlemens path and you held me tight and wouldnt let go Chorus Tired walls are worn but the days walk the same Sad fields are torn but the wind blows away Time was meant to warn but the time was never played So walk on the field and the war ends today We Made love and the first time and you claimed it was love the second you claimed it was dust But you said that you feel and that your not so cold But you left me confused and I walk down the line head to floor Chorus Now the last time we made love oh love you claimed it was not love but piece of mind But when I left too fast you felt oh torn so torn You slammed the door shut and left me wounded and worn Chorus

Clouds

Clouds CLOUDS If I can paint the clouds today what will the color be White I guess thats common but who doesnt like familiar thing Well off course Blue is also nice blend well with the sky I like things orderly So I start with white here and paint some blue there Red paint came to me and said why dont you like me Why red clouds would make anyone feels angry same as purple clouds make anyone sad But hey whats the fuss So I paint with red here and some purple there I touched the green paint and it said my dear I am the serenity So I paint with some green here and a little of yellow there Because when I looked at the yellow color I feel renew I looked at them all and said this work is pretty much done Not long after that black paint came to me and said no dear not done I and grey are the color of wisdom Why I said you are the color of gloom No gloom allowed to intact with them as I wander my marvelous clouds Black and grey looked at me with their deep eyes So I paint a little black here and some grey there And guess what Now all color seemed joined and connected They now have what people said as shades Now I looked at my marvelous clouds And I understand the meaning of each color By each stroke of brush and each gradient of color My life has never been very easy but they colored

Wait For Tomorrow

Wait For Tomorrow

Wait For Tomorrow This is pretty much a sad but hopeful track It describes a bad time a time where one may feel lost or hurt but also the indisputable fact of knowing that even after the darkest night light will come brighter than ever Lyrics Loneliness why have you come around this place when I was so happy being alone Silence the loudest word we hardly say now it seems to surround me with its voice A year has gone and though I dont feel like getting old It seems Im not a young boy anymore Emptiness is all that fills my soul today I try but I cant help it in anyway So better wait for tomorrow Theres nothing you can do today Wait for the Sun to come again Saturday I met a girl and I slept with her trying to fulfil that immense hole But after all it didnt really work out very well now the hole seems bigger than before So better wait for tomorrow Theres nothing you can do today Wait for the Sun to come again Upkeep I sleep the hours I cant weep dreaming of a new place full of hope And in my dreams I can see you laughing dressed in green wondering what it was that made you so sad before So better wait for tomorrow Light up a candle by your bed And wait for the Sun to come again I will try again tomorrow Im not done yet Not until death comes asking for me I will try again tomorrow Cause Im not done yet my friend Not until death comes to get get me So better wait for tomorrow Theres nothing you can do today Better wait for tomorrow Better wait for tomorrow Better wait for tomorrow Music and Lyrics Roberto C Calles Main and Backing Vocals Roberto C Calles Acoustic and Electric Guitars Roberto C Calles Production and Arrangement Roberto C Calles Engineering Scott M Fisher

He Stopped Loving Her Today ''cover'' 3rd mix on the #1 country song of all time..

He Stopped Loving Her Today ''cover'' 3rd mix on the #1 country song of all time.. Written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman Theres an old cliche that says country music is mostly comprised of three chords and the truth Theres also a generalization that says country music is on the whole unremittingly sad Needless to say those are broad descriptions that limit the scope of a type of music that encompasses many different musical strategies and is capable of conveying the full range of the emotional spectrum Yet there is no doubt that He Stopped Loving Her Today the 1980 masterpiece by George Jones does indeed adhere to those cliches even as it finds a way to transcend them After all the song is pretty much just three chords Technically there are six but thats only because of the key change The truth can be found in Jones stunning performance a vocal for the ages And the song itself composed by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman contains the sadness which was then amplified to majestic proportions by the production of Billy Sherrill All of those disparate elements and unique personalities meshed to create this one-of-a-kind recording from 1980 The accolades for the song were immediate as it won Grammy Academy of Country Music and CMA awards It continues to amass honors including selection by the Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board in 2009 and numerous occasions when it was named greatest country song of all time on various media lists The only thing that can match its lofty status might be the unlikeliness of the circumstances behind the songs creation and recording George Jones was at a low point both personally and professionally in 1980 Substance abuse had wrecked the trajectory of one of the finest careers in country music and his previous few singles and albums were lacking in comparison to some of his best Luckily the legendary producer Billy Sherrill was out scouting material for Jones next album when he came upon a song about one mans unwavering devotion to a former love The song was written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman a pair who ironically enough had their previous biggest success as collaborators with Tammy Wynettes D-I-V-O-R-C-E Jones and Wynettes tumultuous marriage resulted in many hit singles and a 1975 divorce Sherrill liked the song in which the mans love for his ex is interrupted only by death but he thought it needed something more That something turned out to be a spoken-word middle section in which the woman comes back to visit the man at his funeral Jones was on the mend in his personal life when he headed into CBS Studio B in Nashville to record the song but it still was a battle to get the right performance from him Sherrill had to piece together the results from several sessions for the finished product and had to deal with Jones difficulty with the melody he kept confusing it with the tune from Kris Kristoffersons Help Me Make It Through The Night The spoken-word section also tripped up the singer who kept slurring the words Sherrill got what he needed and did the rest bathing the song in production techniques that had undeniable flair yet werent invasive Theres a lonely harmonica blowing through the early verses followed up by a subtle string bed and whining steel guitar In the chorus the strings come alive and soar to a crescendo as Jones delivers the refrain in the midst of it all When the record was finished the performer didnt have very high hopes In his autobiography I Lived To Tell It All Jones wrote I looked Billy square in the eye and said Nobody will buy that morbid son of a bitch Of course the songs success changed his tune To put it simply I was back on top he wrote Just that quickly I dont want to belabor this comparison but a four-decade career was salvaged by a three-minute song

66: Self Amusement

66: Self Amusement

66: Self Amusement Sponsor Privatecalculator-com Introduction nbsp Today we rsquo re going to be talking about self amusement Self amusement is the opposite of seeking approval It rsquo s when you don rsquo t give a F k what other people think You do what you want because it amuses one personhellip YOU You rsquo re not looking for approval from anybody else You rsquo re doing and saying what you think is funny You rsquo re having a great time making yourself laugh and boosting your own state Now this doesn rsquo t mean you walk around acting like a jerk Your intention is not to offend anyone else Your goal is to amuse yourself nbsp Self amusement is extremely attractive to women for a few reasons nbsp 1 You don rsquo t care what she thinks - When you can demonstrate to a girl that you don rsquo t give a shit a few things happen 1 She starts to wonder why you don rsquo t care and she assumes that you rsquo re not attracted to her because most guys act like needy little bitches around them 2 Even if she rsquo s not that attracted to you yet she rsquo s going to feel the urge to want toldquo get you rdquo because she rsquo ll look at it like a challenge So she rsquo ll start to qualify herself to you 3 She will trust you more because if you rsquo re the type of guy to say and do whatever you want what would be your reason to lie to her This is the reason why I intentionally say weird and embarrassing shit about myself You want the girl to feel as if you have nothing to hide But don rsquo t confuse this with telling her all your insecurities and sad life story nbsp 2 You rsquo re the life of the party read social proof - This one is pretty self explanatory It rsquo s like that song says girls just want to have fun I can rsquo t tell you how important this is I can tend to be a very serious person and when I first got into pickup I followed what was called the mystery method and it was basically a 9 step method to sleep with any girl you want I loved this because to me it felt like a military mission or something Execute a plan for a desire result Seems legit right But the problem with this is the fun factor If you rsquo re aren rsquo t genuinely having fun you seem like a weird creeper dude When you go out to bars and clubs you can tell the difference between guys who are just having fun and a guy who is approaching women just to get a desirable result I had this discussion with a client a while back and what I told him was - To know and understand the structure of a night out and what things are required to attract a girl but when you are actually talking to the girl you don rsquo t want to be consciously thinking about it It should be more intuitive So understand the structure but throw it out the window when it rsquo s game time I like to use sports as an example quite a bit but you practice and study study study but when it rsquo s game time it rsquo s game time and you kind of have to throw the rulebook out the window sometimes nbsp 3 You rsquo re in a fun playful and excited mood - Again this is basically just the outcome of being the life of the party When you rsquo re in a fun playful and excited mood girls respond to you soooo much better and she feels affected by your fun playful energy She starts to feel great too It rsquo s the law of state transference - Whatever you feel the girl feels So if you rsquo re nervous anxious scared uncomfortable or whatever that rsquo s what the girl is going to feel to some degree when interacting with her That rsquo s why it rsquo s so important that you are in a fun playful and excited mood nbsp The concept of making a girl do something nbsp So many guys try and make girls do things like I want to make a girl text me back I want a girl to like me I want a girl to go home with me I want a girl to havewith me nbsp When it comes to picking up girls you can rsquo t make
